The launch event for the “Reveal” project was held on November 1st at the Park House of the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, located in Maasser el Shouf.
“Reveal” is an initiative promoted by the University of Insubria and carried out in partnership with the CSO Istituto Oikos, the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, the Farah Social Foundation, and the National Research Council (CNR). The initiative also benefits from the collaboration of the Municipality of Maasser el Shouf.
The project was carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General of Antiquities and the Maasser el Shouf Archaeological Project (MESAP). It is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) with the specific objective of studying and making the archaeological cultural heritage within the Reserve accessible to the public. The aim is to connect the environment and culture to foster integrated development, intended to attract visitors and tourists and, in this way, promote local economic development.
Italy’s focus on the protection of cultural heritage and the environment in Lebanon is also evident through the sharing of expertise and support for local bodies, thanks to the involvement of experts from various Italian universities and research centers.
The initiative falls within the broader framework of Italian support for the safeguard and promotion of Lebanon’s historical and archaeological heritage. Italy stands out as one of the major international donors in the sector, having financed projects such as the restoration of the Temple of Jupiter (Baalbek), the refurbishment of the National Museum of Beirut, and the conservation work on the Tomb of Tyre.
