The environmental sector involves a range of initiatives, supported by various funding sources, aimed at the sustainable management of natural resources and the promotion of ecological practices. Main intervention priorities include the protection of marine and mountain resources, as well as the country’s Natural Reserves; waste management, an area in which AICS stands out as one of the main donors in Lebanon; sustainable water resource management; and the promotion of alternative energy sources.

Special focus has been placed on projects that support scientific research and reduce environmental disaster risks, with a focus on prevention and resilience.

Recent regional crises and the worsening effects of climate change, including forest fires, extreme weather events, and increasing urban pressure, have highlighted new vulnerabilities and the need for targeted action. The Italian Cooperation aims to respond by strengthening ecosystem protection, supporting climate adaptation practices, and promoting more inclusive and resilient environmental management models.

Furthermore, the environment represents a multisectoral dimension, integrated into the overall programming of AICS Beirut, with applications in key sectors such as agriculture, education, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), and sustainable urban development.
