AICS, together with the Embassy of Italy in Damascus, participated in an important and intensive joint mission organized by the United Nations in Aleppo and its surrounding rural areas, to visit the interventions carried out as part of the Joint Programme, co-funded by the Italian Cooperation.
The mission provided an opportunity to closely observe interventions in the sectors of energy, health, education, agriculture, water and sanitation services, vocational training, debris management, and the digitization of public services.
Between rehabilitated infrastructure, restored essential services, and new spaces returned to the community, Aleppo is gradually being reborn. The impact of the interventions is tangible: thousands of people can now access safer, more inclusive, and higher-quality essential services, concretely contributing to the improvement of communities’ living conditions.
The visit confirmed the value of an integrated approach that successfully pooled expertise, experience, and operational capacities to maximize the effectiveness of the interventions. The role of local communities and Syrian authorities was central, as they were directly involved in identifying priorities and implementing the initiatives. Strong appreciation for the initiative and its results was expressed by the Vice Governor of Aleppo, as also emerged from numerous meetings on the ground, confirming the importance of a partnership founded on dialogue, participation, and shared responsibility.
